Baby announced his birth

As I look back on my 8-9 months of pregnancy, I recall this particular incident. Before we could announce the good news of our baby, many of my close relatives had already felt his presence. My mother-in-law saw herself playing with a cute little baby in her dream. My sis-in-law was thinking about me and wrote a mail saying, “Now you are approaching 30, it is high time to conceive.” And guess what, I was 4 weeks pregnant already.

It was amazing how baby was connected to everyone right from his birth. We did not have to do much work. Everybody already knew about his arrival. :)

Pregnancy - Maternity Leave

The last few months, I was working non-stop as I had a deadline to meet. It was good to complete the work and start my maternity leave. What a respite!! :) I am in the 3rd trimester and have completed 36 weeks 2 days. It was fun working though, as my mind was occupied and baby also could enjoy the lovely walks to office. But, now that I am feeling little heavy, I cannot sit for long hours at the computer so it is a welcome change.

We had a small office get-together celebrating the end of a hectic year. My colleagues wished me for the days to come and for the birth of my baby. I am enjoying my days at home, setting up the house and making it cozy for our baby. I took out all his new clothes, toys and arranged them. It was a warm feeling. I spoke to baby and told him all that we have got for him. He was excited. Now baby hears and responds to my voice.

I have also put my hospital bag in place with all the necessary stuff for labor. I am planning to do regular exercise to strengthen my pelvic muscles and preparing myself mentally for the lovely days ahead. I know it will be very simple and easy. I just need to remember to relax. :)

Christmas time with baby

It is Christmas time. Time for celebrations…Catholics celebrate it as a time when baby Jesus was born. We made special food and decorated the Christmas tree. We also put on bells, Christmas stockings and other decorations well in advance. It was fun with baby too squirming in my tummy and saying “Give me, I will also do some decorations.” Yes sweety, your time will come soon.. just 1 more month to go…Baby was so active on Christmas eve. .. I thought maybe he was playing with baby Jesus and other angels and having a nice time… decided not to disturb him. ;) These days nights are cold, but it is better in day when the sun comes out.

We had a visit to the doctor in the afternoon. Now I have completed 35 weeks 6 days. Doctor said baby is growing well and weighs about 2660 gms. He is getting ready for delivery with his head down. Baby tried some of his stunts on Dr. Uncle and the doctor could not help laughing. We also had blood tests and urinalysis. There was a special test wherein they pricked my ear with a needle and checked for the time required for the coagulation of blood. This is very important because during delivery there is bleeding and they have to be sure that it will stop soon. Later the doctor checked for baby’s heart beat, his movements and my contractions (if any) by putting fetal monitor. Everything is normal. The visit to the doctor lasted almost 4-5 hours as it was crowded. Overall, we felt happy and came home, celebrating our Christmas day in hospital. :)

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the prettiest of them all? Hmmm.. a tough question for the mirror. It cannot tell lies and at the same time cannot make a lady angry. ha ha ha ..But my mirror is good.. it just shows my reflection.. “you are what you think yourself to be…” looking in the mirror, sometimes I wonder… is it the same me? Yes, it is, but with a little difference. I feel,I look prettier with each passing day….my skin is glowing with all the pregnancy hormones changes. My hair has become shiny and bouncing well..

I am in the 9th month of pregnancy. My tummy is bulging out and I just love to admire and flaunt it…I love myself more because I see my beautiful angel in there. My hubby makes the experience even more wonderful because he cannot stop kissing our baby, or rather my tummy at the moment. ;) You have to just watch baby respond to him when he kisses as if saying “Kisses from me too, dada.” *_* he he he

Shopping for Baby Essentials

Winter has just set in and just 1 month to go for the Big Day. It is getting colder. I and my hubby decided that it was high time we start shopping for the some essentials for our little one. The “some essentials” went a long way wherein we almost were shopping for half a day deciding on the best things for our baby.

We shopped for some warm clothes for baby which included baby sweaters,t-shirts, shorts, onesies, caps, mittens, booties, nightwear, blanket sleepers, towels etc. Other accessories included feeding bottle, bottle cover, pacifiers, nappies, baby bibs, massage oil, soaps, comb, shampoo, powder etc.

We also bought a lot of rattles, toys, small and big ones, which included a big size Santa Claus POOH.

We were deciding on the pram for our baby. We saw a good design pram which was exactly what we had imagined and within reasonable rates, but it was pink in color and not to our liking. They wrote that there was only one piece left. We felt a bit bad. Then I felt I should check all the others and it was like, baby took me to another corner of the pram section and presto... There was pram of a similar design and a golden color. They also had black and red in the same design. There was an offer going on for 3 days and the rates had almost reduced to half. Wow, we were thrilled!! We checked all the colors and then opted for golden as that was the best!!

Later we also checked out baby crib and bedding, bath tub and food items which we will purchase later.

We came home happy with our lovely purchase for the day.

Prenatal Classes

Prenatal classes help to prepare for labor, birth, and early parenthood, especially for the first time parents-to-be. Prenatal classes not only help you focus on your pregnancy and forthcoming labour and birth, but they also have a great social function - they're a great place to meet other expectant parents.
I and my hubby attended a prenatal class conducted by the health center in our area.
It was a very informative and a good learning experience as this is our first baby.

We had the following sessions in the prenatal class:
- information about the process of labour and childbirth
demo of how the baby squeezes through the birth canal and how nature defines it course for the baby. The babies are such experts that they know exactly what to do.

- they explained the changes we might experience after the birth and in early parenthood

- tried out massage skills and breathing techniques.
Showed how the birthing partner can help in breathing and relaxation during labor. I got a lovely massage too. Courtesy - my hubby;)

- bathing and wrapping the baby
the exact procedure of holding and bathing a baby, cleaning up, wearing diapers, talking to the baby while bathing, putting clothes on.

- group work and played games with other expecting mothers and their partners and got to know their views and pregnancy experience.

- they also made my hubby ware a fake tummy of 10kgs, so that he can experience how it feels to be pregnant and what are the difficulties pregnant women face even to do the daily chores. It was quite funny seeing my hubby walk with a big belly. ;)

- they also provided information about the support provided by various institutions.

It helped me and my hubby to acquire the skills and confidence needed to make birth a positive experience. I guess I feel well-prepared for pregnancy now.

34 W 6D - Visit to Dr.Uncle

The visit to the doctor was very positive. The doctor was happy with the growth and movements of the baby. This time we captured the ultrasound images with our handycam. Baby is now 50 cms in length and weighs around 2500gms. Baby smiled and winked at us when we were seeing the ultrasound. He was also closing and opening his mouth and drinking in aminiotic fluid.

The doctor said once I complete 36 weeks, it will be called full-term delivery. After that if I go in labor anytime, it is fine. A couple of weeks to go... I am feeling so excited.

This time we also did the hospital admission formalities for labor and delivery. We also had a tour of the hospital to know what are the facilities provided for labor and delivery and what is the essential stuff required during the stay in the hospital.

Sleeping in the night

It is almost 34 weeks and 5 days for our baby. My belly has grown bigger and rounder. The navel is protruding out and there is a prominent dark mid-line showing from the navel and upwards. Though I am able to walk just fine in the day, the nights are a bit uncomfortable.
Due to the big belly, I have difficulty sleeping. When I try to sleep on my side, baby squirms or kicks back if he gets squeezed. ;) In fact he just lets me know if he is uncomfortable. They really have a unique way of dealing with situations. Baby says “We should learn to speak out!! That is how we can get what we want” ;).Smart guy!!
Holding my big belly, I have to turn and twist and adjust my sleeping posture. And my weight shakes the whole bed.. he he he..It is kind of funny sometimes.
You have to make an effort for things which you could do so easily some days back. These days there is an increase need to go to the bathroom in the night too. It has become my favorite place apart from the bed. ;)

Baby Hiccups

Yesterday I woke up in the middle of the night and felt my baby’s body beating in a rhythm. I knew it wasn’t the heartbeat as it is not so intense. The sensation was unlike any other movements. The rhythm of the twitches and the frequency make the hiccups much different from the rolls, kicks and punches you normally experience during pregnancy. I realized that my poor baby was getting hiccups. Once you feel them a few times, you'll notice it right away. I felt pity for the little one, because I know how annoying it can be get a bout of hiccups. I thought maybe patting him, getting out of bed and drinking water might help him. I stretched myself and drank water to my hearts content. Actually the hiccups do not last for long.Usually it subsides within a minute.

You may wonder if the hiccups are uncomfortable for your baby. I wondered about this and even asked the doctor. Fortunately, the doctor said the baby isn't bothered by the hiccups when he is still in uterus. It is completely normal.

The cause for the hiccups is not very well known. The baby's digestive system is maturing and growing. Your baby's intestines for example are slowly contracting and relaxing. Your baby also begins practicing swallowing small amounts of amniotic fluid to help further mature the digestive system, which might be one of the causes for hiccups. Some babies may hiccup several times every day while other baby's only hiccup sporadically.

My Sweet Angel

This is another of my poems I have penned down for my baby. I will show him all these when he grows up.

A sweet angel has come into our lives,
Slowly, steadily he stole our hearts.
We can feel you breathing through,
To make a place for yourself, in a world so new.

You are smart and you know exactly what you want,
Through your high connections you tell us too.
We know you are here not to follow,
But to lead people in this world so hollow.

32W 6D - Visit to Dr. Uncle

Baby completed 32 weeks,6 days. He has gained almost 500 gms from the time of the last visit to the doctor, already weighing 2100gms.

Baby says, “The doctor called me ‘Good Boy’!! Guess why? Keep guessing…. Hmmmm .. cannot.. Bcoz, bcoz , I was in the same head down position. He he he ..and I gave my big broad smile to Dr. Uncle and specially to my mom and dad. They were thoroughly impressed with my performance. Made Dr. Uncle’s day tooo.. ;) he seemed to be in a jolly mood... and guess what mom and dad gifted me? ‘A nice piggy bank’. They said they will reward me for all my performances.”

Newborn baby and his Aura

The aura of a newborn baby is intensely luminous. This can be partly related to the fact that for a while, the baby keeps some of the light of the angels that have assisted in the process of birth. The strong participation of the hierarchy of the angels in all that is related to birth makes a delivery a most fascinating experience of consciousness. It feeds the spirit of all those who are present during birth.

Apart from the touch of the angels, during its first 10 to 15 days on Earth the baby is still saturated with effulgent astral impressions coming from the journey it has just completed through intermediary worlds. These can be perceived as extremely vivid images that flow into your consciousness as soon as you tune into the child's aura. You receive clear visions of where the baby comes from: space, worlds between death and rebirth, and also possibly its last incarnation. The baby overflows with astral images. All you have to do is tune in and impressions rush into your field of vision.

Whenever you get a chance, be in the presence of a new born and experience the joy.:)

Pregnancy dreams

Pregnancy feels like a journey of million steps. There are so many ups and downs, happy, exciting and breathtaking moments. If we just take one-step at a time I guess we can reach our destination very easily. Though I say this, there are some moments wherein we feel a lot of apprehensions about what lies ahead of us …. The last tri-semester happenings, weight gain and exhaustion, what to expect during labour, how to take care of a new-born… am I doing the things right? am I eating properly? etc. etc.

All the above mentioned things affect the mind a lot and it appears as dreams in the night. Sometimes I dream about climbing mountains or missing a train and wake up tired and full with sweat. Sometimes I dream of not reaching my goals. It is quite normal to feel so. I did some reading online and they say that even if we are relaxed, our sub-conscious mind records the anxious moments and we see it as dreams in the night. As I said in my earlier post in order to calm myself down, I follow some breathing techniques and some exercises. I realized here is nothing to worry, if we are positive, everything falls in place.

After all these 9 months are the beginning of a new journey, a new life for a mother and child. We need to enjoy it at the fullest. :)

31 weeks - Appoinment with the doctor

Today I have come to visit the doctor again (just within 4 days), to check whether baby has moved in the head down position. I have just completed 30 weeks and the doctor said it is a good time for baby to be ready for the D-day with head down, as I mentioned in my earlier post. So I am visiting the doctor in just 4 days after doing the exercise he mentioned.

I also have 3 rounds of blood sugar test with 1 hour interval between each. I am sitting and writing this diary as I am waiting for the 3 hours to pass by. My baby is happily kicking in my womb. I just love to feel him. I am hungry and so is my baby as we could not eat anything before all the tests are over. They gave us some sweet juice as part of the test, but do you think it is enough for both of us.;)
I am talking to baby to move in the head down position and imagining that he has already moved in the right position. I am trying to be as cool as possible because I know if I am happy, baby is also happy.

The doctor called me for the examination and did an ultrasound again. And you know what, the baby had indeed turned. My joys knew no bounds. Tears just trickled from my eyes. After all, baby did respond to my talks. Now I know, together we can do anything.I treated baby to a sumptuous lunch because we were hungry since morning. Later baby and I bought colorful toys for his wonderful performance.
Just 7-10 weeks to go. Wow, I will be soon holding my little darling in my arms.

O’ my Baby

As I was sitting and thinking of our baby, I happened to scribble down something for my little angel. Here are the few lines of my heartfelt feelings for my baby.

O’ my baby, you bring so much joy to my heart,
My heart fills with an immense sense of happiness.
I feel you moving in my womb,
And the thought of you inside me gives warmth to my heart.
The feeling that you are a part of me, moving and kicking seems like a miracle.

Sometimes I can hear you whispering to me,
Soft murmurs which only I can hear.
You know what is right for you,
And you take me to the place and I see.

When I talk to you, I can feel you smiling,
When I sing for you, you sing along with me
I feel your warmth as you feel mine,
I love you my darling and I will always love you thee.

I remember once I said “Why are you kicking so much, it hurts me”,
That day you got angry, and stopped talking to me.
I felt the pain then, and I realized,
How much you mean to me,
I said “Sorry my child” and loved you,
And you started kicking happily,
My joy knew no bounds when I felt you again and I said “No more getting angry on thee”.

You are now a part of my life,
And I am waiting to hold you in my arms,
O’ my baby, when will you show yourself to me.

30 weeks 3 days - Visit to Dr. Uncle

We went for the doctors appointment today, but had to wait for 2 hours as there were many people ahead of us. It was almost 6pm by the time we entered. The doctor was cool and calm as usual. The doctor did an ultrasound and said that the baby is in the breech position and that he should move in the head down position in this week. He gave me some exercise to help baby in the head down position. Then he also said the sugar in the urine was high and it will be good to check blood sugar. Actually during pregnancy, urine sugar increases as the metabolism is slow. He told me not to worry as things can be taken care of. It was little disappointing but I hope that everything will be right soon. I guess I ate too much of sweet stuff too and I am trying to reduce on that. Prevention is better that cure, hence I feel the earlier we know about things, it is better. I know I get a bit anxious of the days ahead, but then I try to relax at the designated time, because by then it is as if I have been through all the feelings.

It is a great feeling to have a new life in your womb kicking and playing happily. :) I really understand now what our parents have been through when they decided to have us and raise us. I admire my mom for going through all the pain for us. They have done so much for us without expecting anything back. Hats off to them.

The aura of a pregnant woman

The other day I was reading about the aura of a pregnant women. The aura of a pregnant woman is one of the easiest to see, for it is particularly luminous and full of gold. This explains why a pregnant woman often arouses a feeling of respect, if not awe. Even though the people around her may not be able to see her aura consciously, they unconsciously register some of the golden energy and are impressed by it.

The gold colour in the aura indicates that the pregnant woman is intensely connected to high spiritual beings who support and foster the embryo. Pregnancy is therefore a privileged time for spiritual growth. It is a time to do a lot of meditation and enlightening reading, and to work at developing intuition and perception. Apart from the fact that the baby is extremely sensitive to the mother's thoughts and emotions and influenced by them, a spiritual focus during pregnancy can bring about big inner shifts in the mother.

28 weeks 3 days

In the 3 trimester (9 months of pregnancy) our baby grows from an embryo, to fetus and then to a fully grown baby. As the baby grows, we also feel a lot of change in our bodies, physically as well as emotionally. Every trimester brings along with it a new experience, a new hope.

In the first trimester (1-3 months), when the baby is developing from a tiny dot to an embryo, we find it difficult to adjust to the changing needs of our body. The first 3 months, make you feel tired and sleepy. You really start feeling it strongly in the second month. The food taste changes and sometimes you even dislike your favourite foods. The chocolates and cakes I used to love suddenly felt like un-eatables. There are rounds of throwing up of food and feeling restless at nights with the need of going to the bathroom often in the middle of the night.

The second trimester (4-6 months) are quite enjoyable. You get your appetite back again and feel energetic. Baby also grows to a fetus with all it’s body parts developing well. He/she can move his hands and legs and plays in the womb.

The third semester (7-9 months) is a kind of combination of the earlier 2 semesters. Your appetite increases due to baby’s demands for food. He is a growing individual and needs lot of healthy food. You may feel a bit tired as your big tummy puts a lot of pressure on your back and legs. You may find yourself craving for sweets as baby develops a sweet tooth. Now this can be bad as that in turn increase your weight exponentially.

In all it is important to have good control on your physical and emotional state. Your body tells you exactly what it needs, but sometimes we need to control our whims and fancies too. :)

27 weeks 4 days

27 weeks 4 days and I am coming close to the 40 weeks pregnancy journey. As the BIG day draws nearer, I am little anxious but happy thinking of the day my baby will be in my arms.

These days I feel my body tightening and it scratches a bit. Standing for long time makes me feel a bit tired due to the weight of the baby. Also there is pain in the lower back (the hip bone) if I sit continuously for long hours. Getting down from the train and climbing the flight of stairs makes me want for breath. I find myself standing on the stairs and puff my lungs out.I see to it that I go for walks and do light exercise and massage especially for my neck, shoulders, back and legs. There is little blood oozing from the nose. Read that it is caused due to the increase in blood pressure in the body. I guess there is nothing to worry though.

27 weeks 1 day - Visit to Dr.Uncle

It was a nice Autumn day. I went to office as usual and took a half day off to visit the doctor. My Baby calls him "Dr. Uncle". ;) He is a sweet person with lot of patience and care. We did the weight, blood pressure and urinalysis checkups. In just 3 weeks I had gained 2kgs. Thanks to all the potatoe chips, ice-creams and sweets I felt like eating these days. ;) Development of baby’s sweet tooth you see!! I got a good warning from the doctor to keep my weight under control and to eat only healthy stuff. My cute little sweety, do not worry, mom will put everything under control.

Then it was time for baby show. In the ultrasound, we saw our little angel (now a little bigger) was having a nice time. He has come out of his breech position with his head downwards. Doctor said it is a good sign, but there are possibilities of him moving a bit and we can be sure of his position only after the 30th week. Baby is weighing 1.2kgs (a little more than average) and measures about 38 cms. His toes were long, maybe he is taking his features from his dad who is also very tall.:)

Later I had a blood test to check for anemia and other stuff whose report I will get in the next visit.

Baby is listening - 24 weeks 5 days

Baby can now hear your sound and reacts to sudden noises outside the womb. So it is a good time to talk to your tummy. I realized this when one day after food, baby started kicking a lot and it hurt. So in order to calm him down, I started singing some nursery rhymes and touching him. Within minutes, he was cool.I guess he slept away to glory.

From now on, you can put on some good music, dance and feel your baby dancing with you. Read out stories to him/her. Tell him/her how much you love him and how good you feel. As I said earlier, your moods affect the baby a lot, so try to pass the good moods back and forth.

Pregnancy – Work Life Balance

As my job involves sitting long hours at the computer, I see to it that I take mini-breaks every 1 hour. During this break, I take a walk and relax my neck, shoulders, back, hands and legs by doing some simple exercises. I also practice deep breathing and drink a lot of water. Actually going to work, has helped me develop a good routine. It helps me to be active and sharpens brain cells. I would have been lazy being at home putting on too much of weight. For baby too, it is good experience listening to intelligent talks happening around in the office. He will becomes smart and develop good communication skills .

24 weeks 3 Days - Played table-tennis

As the doctor said, I can do little exercise, I thought I would play a light sport. As I am fond of playing table-tennis, we thought of going to play for some recreation. It was fun playing it after a long time. It is less strenuous and does not require much moving about and hard-hitting. It also gives you a good assurance that you are fit and healthy. Baby must have also done some stretching while I was playing ;).

24 weeks pregnant - Doctor's Appointment

Today, I have completed 24 weeks of pregnancy. It feels great to be coming close to the target date of delivery. Baby is kicking a lot sometimes and sometimes he is busy sleeping in his cozy nest. It is such a sweet sensation to feel him moving in the womb. My friends can’t help touching my tummy to feel him. Whenever I eat some spicy food, I guess he gets hiccups and I can feel his constant movements. My sweet little baby!! I try to avoid things which may upset him.

I had been to the doctor and he said things are going on well. Baby is weighing more than 600 grams. From crown to heel, he is measuring 11.8 inches/30 centimetres. My weight has increased by 2kgs, which according to the doctor is a good sign. I have blood pressure and urinalysis which is normal. Soon I will be having a blood test in the next visit. The doctors visit will be every 15-20 days from now onwards instead of 1 month.

I am continuing with my folic acid, iron and calcium supplements with regular healthy food consisting of salads, vegetables, dals, fish, rice, little chicken & lamb and also milk before going to sleep. I see to it that we 2 are getting all the required proteins, carbohydrates, calcium, minerals and some fats. And yes, we do not miss fruits. Breakfast consists of whole-wheat bread, butter, cheese, cornflakes etc. Also I drink almost more than 2 litres of water a day. This helps in good digestion and bowel movements. I have again developed an increased appetite and feel like eating sweets. I guess he is developing a sweet tooth. Baby and I treat ourselves with ice-creams sometimes ;).

Pregnancy - 23rd week

I am back after a little break. Got a little tied up with other stuff and could not blog much. Hope you are enjoying reading my posts. It will be nice to hear your experiences too. It will give me sheer joy to know that you too have similar experiences as mine. We cannot generalize that we all will feel the same, but more or less the feelings are similar.

Pregnancy has taught me lot. I have become more patient and deterministic to achieve my personal as well as professional goals. There is an added responsibility and every parent wants to give their best to their children. It is very important to maintain a balance in your life, catering to the needs of the family as well as being a helping hand in the finances.

For a women, motherhood is a very important phase of life. The bliss is incomparable to anything in this world. To enjoy this, we need to plan a few things in advance so that everything goes on smoothly. As the BIG day is drawing nearer, you need to plan out your maternity leave and the time when you will join office back again. You also need to get the necessary things required for the baby. Baby bed, pram, clothes, baby tub, feeder bottles, toys, etc.etc. If you are away from your family, it is very important to be mentally strong so that you and your hubby can handle things on your own. Hubby has to do all the running around when you are in the hospital so try to put as many things in place as possible before you go into labor.

Having said all of the above, we have to remember only one thing “BE HAPPY ALWAYS” :).Our baby feels the way we feel. Try to read good books or watch funny movies. Decorate your room with some happy and healthy baby pictures. Do not let the outside world affect your mood much. Everything falls in place. Right things happen at the right time!!

Wrapping a baby

Wrapping a baby is very soothing for some babies as they feel they are cuddled. This is also helpful to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) by keeping baby on her back during sleep. Babies can be wrapped from birth up until they can roll onto their tummies. For wrapping, you can use a cotton or muslin cloth. For babies who do not like wrapping, you can use a infant sleeping bag. Given below is a video showing a good way of wrapping a baby. You can modify the method depending on what suits your baby. Check out if the baby is uncomfortable and is crying. Do not use clothes which may make the baby feel hot. Check for any signs of uneasiness or overheating. For more videos on pregnancy check out this pregnancy blog

Breastfeeding your baby

Breast feeding can be a pleasure activity for both mom and baby once the baby is comfortable with breast feeding. Breast milk is easy to digest and contains antibodies that can protect infants from bacterial and viral infections. Research indicates that women who breastfeed may have lower rates of certain breast and ovarian cancers. Initially the baby may take time to latch on properly to the breast. There are various methods for breast feeding such as the cradle hold, football hold, cross cradle and side lying position. You can use any of this positions you feel you are comfortable with. Check out this video for more details.

Bathing your baby

This video shows techniques of bathing a baby in a very easy manner. It is very important to talk to the baby while bathing, so that it becomes a fun activity for both of you. Your voice soothes the child and he/she feels comfortable in water, even for the first time. After the child gets used to the routine, she/he starts enjoying it.

Felt the first movements of our baby today

This is my 20th week of pregnancy. As I was lying on the bed, tired from the days work, I suddenly felt one part my stomach going “pop” up and down. For a minute I wondered, “what happened?” Hmm, then I realized my little angel was busy playing in my womb. He/she might have been trying some soccer stunts!! Earlier today, we had a sumptuous dinner and he was enjoying every bit of it. I told my hubby and he too felt it. The joy of feeling the first movements of our baby was indeed magical.

Childbirth with Hypnosis - Delivery and labor

I used to always think that it is very tough during labor. But this video gave a new dimension to labor. It is talking about relaxation and deep breathing during the contractions. I am confident that we can have painless delivery and that too without risk. We can be as relaxed as sitting in an a/c couch and have our baby. Yes, I know you would say, “easier said than done”. But believe me, things look difficult when we just get started, but as you get accustomed to them, you feel “Oh is this what I was considering was so difficult!! It is so easy!!! If I had know earlier, I would have not been tensed at all”. Yes, you are not alone. We all feel the same, many a times. We only need to shift our focus to the positives and let all the bad/negative thoughts out of our system. We also need some practice before the delivery. We cannot get it done in 1-2 days. It is kind of a slow process but sure to get results. The earlier we start it the better it is if for us and for our baby. As I am a working women, it is difficult to manage home and work and sometimes gets stressed. So these techniques help me at every step. So my dear friends, consider it as a very close pal of you being at your side and telling you all this. I always wanted a close pal to tell me about how they felt. If we imagine the beautiful fruits of our labor there is nothing stopping us from giving THE BEST to our baby, our angel. Diapering a baby

The video below gives a detailed explanation of a good way of diapering your baby after the mess. Since I may not have my parents around for the delivery, I thought I need to learn all this on my own. Maybe many of you who are in a foreign land may face the same problem as mine. Thought this might be helpful for you too. There will be a series of videos following this one for handling different tasks after a baby is born.

17th Week of pregnancy

I am in my 17th week of pregnancy, more than 3.5 months. Chances of miscarriage are less now. Feeling much better and have an increase in appetite. Foods which I used to dislike taste good again. We had another visit to the doctor yesterday. We did urinalysis, blood pressure & weight checkup. Blood pressure was normal. Thanks to the relaxation and meditation techniques I follow everyday. I will write about these techniques in the future posts. The doctor did an ultrasound again. This is what we wait for every time we visit the doctor. The doctor told us that our baby is now fully formed and even has unique little fingerprints! Although it is not yet possible to accurately pinpoint the baby's sex, the sex organs continue to develop. His head was now more proportionate to his body and his legs are longer than his arms. Our baby was so active, that he/she was modeling and posing for us. As if to say “hello there, look at me, don’t I look like the beautiful models?” Indeed my sweet angel!! You are much better than them. Then we saw her/him dancing and changing it’s positions which gave the doctor a hard time measuring him/her. ;) As for us, we simply could not blink our eyes away from the ultrasound monitor screen. It was playtime!!

Pregnancy and Child Care

Just like all the first time mothers I am a bit apprehensive about the labour and taking care of the new born. To tell you the truth I have never held a new born (of family or friends), afraid that I will hurt them. Now that I have to do it all alone, gets me goose pimples. I know many of you would also share the same experience and would like to know what to do. To put my fears at ease, I searched on the net for information and I got loads of it. I am sure it will help you too. So here are some videos you can sit back and enjoy. The videos give loads of information about your pregnancy, development of your baby, labor & delivery and taking care of the new born.

11th week – Baby moving in the womb

We had our 4th visit to the doctor. This is my 11th week of pregnancy. The ultrasound was done and we saw our lil angel sleeping. Doctor told us that baby’s sleep and wake up every 20 mins in the womb. Might have got tired running about with me to reach the hospital all the way from office.;) And then suddenly the baby moved. Whoops!! That was the first time we saw our baby moving in the womb, with cute lil butterfly kicks. The doctor informed us that the baby's liver is now producing red blood cells and all his vital organs are growing and developing. Little teeth continue to form beneath the baby's gums and his bones are beginning to harden. He/She now has separate fingers and toes and can even move them! At this stage he may even be able to make a fist. His heart is also beating very fast, approximately double the rate of mum's and can be seen on ultrasound. Hair and nails are growing and genitals begin forming, although as yet the baby's sex cannot be determined on ultrasound.

9th week – start of morning sickness

The 9th week saw the onset of morning sickness. I threw up once in a while, but I started a dislike for some foods and had to be careful of what I chose to eat. Chocolates, caffeine was a “BIG NO NO”. Eating was limited in the fear of throwing up. In the bargain, I almost lost 2-3 kgs of weight. But I was not feeling weak as I had always being exercising and had a healthy diet before pregnancy. It does help you sustain these few months, you see. I know people have worst experiences than mine. Some have to be hospitalized as they cannot intake even water. At least I could munch on something in the evening. I knew I will get over with this. Good times will be back soon.

My Joyful Experience

Actually my periods are very irregular. Sometimes happening in 2 or 3 months and once it also happened in 5months.. well you see I may have gone through more than half the stage of pregnancy. ;) Doctors say it is fine if there are not much side effects. It may be just that your period cycle is happening without bleeding. I could not help but believe it, though I tried some medications. Sometimes it is hereditary too as was my case and my mom had 3 healthy children, so I was cool. So my dear friends who are facing the same problem as mine, no worries. :) Things will work out for you too, have faith!! But it may be good to visit your doctor and do a medical checkup for both mother and father just so to check the healthy sperm count and uterus.
As I already said in my earlier post, we also fixed up a routine for healthy diet and exercise regime so that our baby too grows healthy. Also it is good to take folic acid supplements and also eat fresh foods and vegetables. It is good for the both parents to be mentally prepared for the new life and the new beginning.
Now I knew my period cycle had begun, but not sure as usual whether I will get my periods. Women can know it from the rise in temperature and tenderness of breasts. You can say that is your peak time for conceiving. There are also some special ovulator tools which can detect ovulation. It was almost 3 months and even if I had conceived I really would not know. ;) But I used to only have natural foods so it was fine. No smoking and drinking and not much caffeine too. And as i wrote earlier, I had really conceived.:)

8th week – listening to our baby’s heartbeat

Our visits to the doctor were quite frequent in the initial stages of pregnancy. Doctors want to be sure that the baby is growing well and there are no complications. We had a blood checkup to detect anaemia or any other related syndromes which may affect the baby in the future. Everything was going good. It was my 8th week of pregnancy. The doctor did an ultrasound and we could hear our baby’s heart beating for us, telling us “Oh Mama and Dada, don’t worry, I am growing well!!”Indeed he/she had become 11.3mm in length from a tiny dot, which we had seen during our first visit in the 4th week of pregnancy. There is no excitement greater than seeing and experiencing all this yourself. Due to this, my hubby would accompany me every time to the doctor. You can't just miss it!!

6th week of pregnancy

I had an increased appetite. I used to feel hungry every 2 hour and munch on some snacks or fresh fruits. And since I was working I used to feel very tired at the end of the day. There were many changes happening in my body and it took me a while to adjust to it. I used to go to sleep as soon as I was home. My hubby used to do handle most of the household chores. You would say “Lucky you” !! :) But poor hubby.. I used to feel bad but could not help it sometimes. I knew I will be able to handle it soon, but I needed my time to get used to the new feeling.
So my dear friends, who are expecting for the first time, do not get overwhelmed. It is just natural. All the tiredness will disappear once you are in your fourth and fifth month. I heard that is the best period of the 9 months.

The 5th week

The next week went on a bit slow. Lots of hopes and expectations. We decided to share with our family only after we had done the next checkup and confirmed that everything was well.
I have a strong faith in the almighty and I was feeling everything will be allright.
When we visited the doctor, she told us that if everything was going right, there will be a aminiotic sac which must have formed which will be protecting the baby all throughout the pregnancy. We did the ultrasound and indeed it was formed. We were excited!!! Everything was happening as per nature’s plan. GREAT!! This is the beginning. :)

My first realization

I started getting very bad cramps in my stomach. You know the usual cramps just before your periods. But it was too bad. For a min or two, I would sit holding my stomach in pain and breath or have some hot water or put a hot water bag on my stomach. The pain used to then subside down. My hubby used to be very supportive. This went on for a week and no periods. I suspected something different is happening to me and we took an appointment with the doctor. We went to the doctor with lot of excitement hoping that the test will be positive.
It was a long wait for us, just so because the time was not passing. Finally we were called in and doctor asked us some routine questions. Then I had this urine test. It tested positive. Then to confirm the doctor did an ultrasound test and we could see a small dot in my uterus.
Wow, our joys knew know bounds. :) But the doctor wanted to be sure that the embryo was growing well. He called us for a check-up the following week. He said it might be the 4th week, but since my periods were irregular, they could not confirm it. Though we were happy, we had to be wait for another week to really be sure that it was all REAL!! The magic was happening!! Yipppppee

It has happened to me !! :)

Yes, it has happened to me. :) I am 4 weeks pregnant now and 8 more months to go. I am very excited. I am a working women and many of you may relate to this experience as well, as we all go through the same. I would like to share my pregnancy experiences with you. What a nice journey it is!!! So wait and watch for more.. There is lots to come. You can share your views too so that it can help other women too.
