Happy New Year 2009 - Baby's Letter

The New Year 2009 has started with a big bang. Baby woke me up early in the morning saying “Mama, wake up!! It’s New Year and we have to do lots of new things.” Wow!! My sweety pie.. thank you!! Letz plan what all we will do together throughout this year.

My pregnancy will be full term in 2 days. It is 36 Weeks 6 Days now. I am feeling wonderful, but at the same time trying to divert my attention to other things so that I am not thinking about labor and delivery all the time.
Baby wrote a letter to Dada & Mama. You will wonder “WHAT!!! This is absurd!! How can he? He is yet to come in this world.” And I say “yes you are right!!” He tries to do these cute little things through us. It is going to be nice moment to remember. Here is the letter..I hope you love it as much as I do, reading it again and again..

1st Jan 2009
Dearest Dada and Mama,

We will do all this in the coming year 2009 and in the years to come...
I will grow fast and we will have lots of fun...

We will giggle under the covers every night.

we will finger-paint, carve pumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catch lightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus.

We will give Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs everyday.

You will have a hand to hold, usually covered with jam. ;)

I will be your partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sandcastles, and skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.

You will have an excuse to keep: reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and wishing on stars. I know you love it. ;)

You will get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

You will be my hero for retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the raining wheels off the bike, removing a splinter, filling a wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless. ;)

You get a front row seat to history to witness the first step, first word, first date, and first time behind the wheel.

I know you have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love me without limits, so one day I will, like you, love without counting the cost.

I will love you always!!

And above all, You will always rank right up there with God.

Letz start the new year with a BIG BANG celebrating ourselves today !! :)

Love and Kisses,
Baby

We Love you too baby!! :)

Baby announced his birth

As I look back on my 8-9 months of pregnancy, I recall this particular incident. Before we could announce the good news of our baby, many of my close relatives had already felt his presence. My mother-in-law saw herself playing with a cute little baby in her dream. My sis-in-law was thinking about me and wrote a mail saying, “Now you are approaching 30, it is high time to conceive.” And guess what, I was 4 weeks pregnant already.

It was amazing how baby was connected to everyone right from his birth. We did not have to do much work. Everybody already knew about his arrival. :)

Pregnancy - Maternity Leave

The last few months, I was working non-stop as I had a deadline to meet. It was good to complete the work and start my maternity leave. What a respite!! :) I am in the 3rd trimester and have completed 36 weeks 2 days. It was fun working though, as my mind was occupied and baby also could enjoy the lovely walks to office. But, now that I am feeling little heavy, I cannot sit for long hours at the computer so it is a welcome change.

We had a small office get-together celebrating the end of a hectic year. My colleagues wished me for the days to come and for the birth of my baby. I am enjoying my days at home, setting up the house and making it cozy for our baby. I took out all his new clothes, toys and arranged them. It was a warm feeling. I spoke to baby and told him all that we have got for him. He was excited. Now baby hears and responds to my voice.

I have also put my hospital bag in place with all the necessary stuff for labor. I am planning to do regular exercise to strengthen my pelvic muscles and preparing myself mentally for the lovely days ahead. I know it will be very simple and easy. I just need to remember to relax. :)

Christmas time with baby

It is Christmas time. Time for celebrations…Catholics celebrate it as a time when baby Jesus was born. We made special food and decorated the Christmas tree. We also put on bells, Christmas stockings and other decorations well in advance. It was fun with baby too squirming in my tummy and saying “Give me, I will also do some decorations.” Yes sweety, your time will come soon.. just 1 more month to go…Baby was so active on Christmas eve. .. I thought maybe he was playing with baby Jesus and other angels and having a nice time… decided not to disturb him. ;) These days nights are cold, but it is better in day when the sun comes out.

We had a visit to the doctor in the afternoon. Now I have completed 35 weeks 6 days. Doctor said baby is growing well and weighs about 2660 gms. He is getting ready for delivery with his head down. Baby tried some of his stunts on Dr. Uncle and the doctor could not help laughing. We also had blood tests and urinalysis. There was a special test wherein they pricked my ear with a needle and checked for the time required for the coagulation of blood. This is very important because during delivery there is bleeding and they have to be sure that it will stop soon. Later the doctor checked for baby’s heart beat, his movements and my contractions (if any) by putting fetal monitor. Everything is normal. The visit to the doctor lasted almost 4-5 hours as it was crowded. Overall, we felt happy and came home, celebrating our Christmas day in hospital. :)

Prenatal Classes

Prenatal classes help to prepare for labor, birth, and early parenthood, especially for the first time parents-to-be. Prenatal classes not only help you focus on your pregnancy and forthcoming labour and birth, but they also have a great social function - they're a great place to meet other expectant parents.
I and my hubby attended a prenatal class conducted by the health center in our area.
It was a very informative and a good learning experience as this is our first baby.

We had the following sessions in the prenatal class:
- information about the process of labour and childbirth
demo of how the baby squeezes through the birth canal and how nature defines it course for the baby. The babies are such experts that they know exactly what to do.

- they explained the changes we might experience after the birth and in early parenthood

- tried out massage skills and breathing techniques.
Showed how the birthing partner can help in breathing and relaxation during labor. I got a lovely massage too. Courtesy - my hubby;)

- bathing and wrapping the baby
the exact procedure of holding and bathing a baby, cleaning up, wearing diapers, talking to the baby while bathing, putting clothes on.

- group work and played games with other expecting mothers and their partners and got to know their views and pregnancy experience.

- they also made my hubby ware a fake tummy of 10kgs, so that he can experience how it feels to be pregnant and what are the difficulties pregnant women face even to do the daily chores. It was quite funny seeing my hubby walk with a big belly. ;)

- they also provided information about the support provided by various institutions.

It helped me and my hubby to acquire the skills and confidence needed to make birth a positive experience. I guess I feel well-prepared for pregnancy now.

Planning for Motherhood

The physical health of the mom and dad before pregnancy affect the health of their future baby. When my hubby and I decided that we will have a baby, we thought it will be good to do some pre-planning so that our baby is healthy, strong and smart.
A baby’s organs begin to form in the first four weeks of pregnancy, before many women even know they are pregnant. So we did the following

• Got a pre-pregnancy checkup, including a dental checkup.
• Started eating healthy food, maintaining a healthy body by swimming, doing aerobics etc.
• No smoking and avoiding secondhand smoke.
• No alcohol.
• Avoided infections because some can harm a fetus.
• Avoided hazardous substances and chemicals.
• Talked to the health care provider about our family history, genetics and birth defects.
• Tried to maintain a cool and calm life free from stress.

Joy Of Motherhood

It is a such a wonderful feeling to be a mother. It is said "Motherhood means a rebirth to a women" . Yes, if we see the different phases which a women goes through in the nine months and then the ultimate moment when she has to give birth to her child. She may have to go through so much pain, but then the beautiful feeling of bringing a new life into this world, her own part, is just incomparable.........

Watch out for more....
